Sherman Tank Returns!

October 19, 2011

The Sherman tank is finally back, with engine repairs completed and a new paint job to boot. It has been painted to represent a vehicle in Company A of the 743rd Tank Battalion attached to the 30th Infantry Division, circa 1944. The Sherman has been dubbed Alligator Alice, in loving memory of founder David Wright’s mother, Alice. Alligator Alice is expected to be placed on display in the military gallery of the Wright Museum during the first week of November.

Thank you to our volunteers, especially Randy Cook and Jack Dunham for their tank operating expertise, and to Kevin Bowman of K&T Bowman Trucking for safely transporting the Sherman back home to the Wright Museum. And of course, thank you to the experts at Northeast Military Vehicle Services for getting this important piece of World War II history up and running again.

Sherman Tank Makes its Way to Milford, MA

Update on our Sherman Tank Restoration Project

May 20, 2011

Today was an exciting day at the Wright Museum! The Museum's M4 Sherman tank was hauled out of the storage garage for its trip to Northeast Military Vehicle Services (NMVS) in Milford, MA. There, the tank will be reunited with its already restored engine. NMVS staff will also make their final repairs to ready the 35 ton tank for future driving and for exhibition in the Wright Museum vehicle gallery. Local reporters from the Granite State News, Weir's Times, and WMUR Channel 9 News were all here to record this historic Wright Museum event.

Thanks to K &T Bowman Trucking and our volunteers for their expert work in getting the tank safely onto its trailer. See photographs below.

M4 Sherman Engine Rebuilt

Update on our Sherman Tank Restoration Project

On February 14, 2011, Wright Museum staff, Board members, and volunteers assisted representatives from Northeast Military Vehicle Services LLC in transporting a non-functional Sherman radial engine from Wolfeboro to the NMVS facility in Milford, Mass. Eventually, the tank itself will be trucked down as well for the re-installment of the engine. Of the many vehicles in the museum’s collection, the M4 is the only one not currently in operable condition. This will all change over the weeks and months ahead. Stay tuned for more postings as this very important project progresses.

The Continental R-975 C4 engine from our M4A3E8 Sherman Tank is now running!
