Take a Virtual Tour of the Wright Museum of WWII History

A preview of what you will see when you take a Virtual Tour of the Wright Museum of WWII History.
With the museum set to open for the 2008 season on Thursday, May 1, visitors to our Web site, www.wrightmuseum.org, can get a sneak peek of what they will see when they visit in person. In addition, we hope that teachers planning to bring their classes for a visit will make use of this resource as an additional way of preparing their students for the trip. And with children across the country working on WWII-related school projects, we hope that this offering will be of some assistance as America's young scholars conduct their on-line research.

The virtual tour is formatted as a 22-slide presentation featuring dozens of images from the museum's extensive collection of WWII artifacts. To view the slide show, you will need PowerPoint or PowerPoint Viewer. If you do not have PowerPoint, or if yours is an older version, the Viewer is available as a free download from Microsoft.

Note: the Virtual Tour is a 2MB file and may take a while to run from the Internet, especially for users with dial-up connections . To expedite your download, we recommend that you right-click the Virtual Tour link, select "Save Target As," and save it to your location of choice. Running the dowloaded file from your computer will be much smoother and quicker. The downloaded version will also allow you to view the slide show's notes pages, which provide additional information about the exhibits highlighted. If you experience any difficulty, please contact the Wright Museum's technical support team at 603/569-1212.

Wright Museum Donates a Pair of Parade Rides to NHPTV

Join in the fun and help the Wright Museum by entering a raffle to benefit our collection of dozens of fully-operational WWII-era vehicles. Dozens of pairs of seats will be raffled off this spring. Lots of fun for the kids and grandkids! Among the perennial highlights of this classic small town parade is the impressive convoy of the Wright Museum’s WWII vehicles.

This year, the museum is donating a pair of seats to benefit
New Hampshire Public Television, which will auction them off during its televised on-air fundraiser in early May. In addition to winning the experience of a lifetime, the high bidder will receive dinner for two at the Wolfeboro Inn, a director-led tour of the museum, a year's subscription to Classic Country Life magazine, and a downtown shopping spree compliments of the Wolfeboro Chamber of Commerce. The winners will have the whole experience documented by Wolfeboro photographer Bob Ness.

"When [museum director Mark Foynes] brought this up as a possibility recently, I knew that this was definitely Superboard material," said NHPTV CEO Peter Frid, refering to the auction's top category of prizes. "The fact that so many Wolfeboro businesses have joined in to round out this package really speaks to the whole area's commitment to our state and its educational non-profit community."

Even if you're not the high bidder, you can still join in the fun. As a fundraiser to benefit the museum’s vehicle collection, we will be raffling off several pairs of tickets , the bearers of which will participate in the parade by riding in one of these historic vehicles.

Raffle tickets are $5 a piece or five for $20. Deeper discounts apply for purchases in larger quantities. Winners will be announced following a drawing that will be held immediately following the museum's June 14 Touch-a-Truck event.

To enter this drawing, please download and complete the Parade Raffle Registration Form and mail with payment to the Wright Museum, P.O. Box 1212, Wolfeboro, NH 03894. Raffle tickets may also be purchased by phone with your Master Card, Visa, or Discover card by calling 603/569-1212.

Museum Teams up with the Navy for a Student You Tube-based Video Contest

The U.S. Navy is pleased to announce its Navy Leadership Challenge Video Essay Contest. The Challenge invites New England high school students aged 15-18 to produce a short video about a “Hometown Hero.”

One winner from each state (and a parent/guardian) will receive an all- expenses-paid trip to a U.S. Navy base. Depending on a winner's destination, activities might include hands-on demonstrations of cutting-edge Navy technology, tours of Navy aircraft and ships, and conversations with some of the Navy’s own everyday heroes.

For more information, visit www.navy.com/leadershipchallenge. For questions, e-mail leadershipchallenge@navy.com or call 877/302-2008.
