David M. Wright
1931 – 2003

David M. Wright, 72, of Tuftonboro Neck, and Founder of the Wright Museum, Wolfeboro. N.H., passed away suddenly Monday, October 13, 2003 in Wolfeboro, NH. He was born June 15, 1931 in Worcester, Mass., the son of the late E. Stanley and Alice (Morris) Wright. David resided in Shrewsbury, Mass. for 55 years where he was an active member of the community. He later retired to his home in Tuftonboro and Boynton Beach, Fla.

After graduating from Hebron Academy in 1950, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served as a Sgt. during the Korean conflict from 1950 to 1954. Upon completion of his military service he joined Wright Line, a Worcester-based computer accessory, furniture and supplies company as a designer/innovator, and was the holder of some 70 U.S. and international Patents. Mr. Wright is the only American to win design awards two years running from the Italian Business Design Society.

After retiring from Wright Line in 1986 as Vice President of Marketing and Product Development he began restoring rare WWII military vehicles. During this time he became an authority on U.S. history focusing on the WWII period of 1939-1945. It was this interest in history and the American way of life during those years that led to his foundation of the Wright Museum of American Enterprise located in Wolfeboro. The museum is dedicated to preserving and sharing the stories of the WWII generation.

David was a member of Worcester Country Club and he served on the Board of Governors and was Green Chairman of the Club. He also served as a Director for the Higgins Armory and Fairlawn Hospital in Worcester. Mr. Wright was on the Advisory Board of Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, a member of the Board of Directors of Huggins Hospital as well as a member of the Economic Development Committee of Wolfeboro. He was an avid golfer, and was a member of Bald Peak Colony Club also serving on their Membership Committee. He was also a member of the Quail Ridge Country Club in Florida.

He was predeceased by his wife in 1977, Gwen Tyrel (Severance) Wright.

David is survived by his present wife, Carole (Olson) Wright, Tuftonboro, his daughter Carrie Jean Wright, Wolfeboro, and his sons David Stanley Wright, Wolfeboro; Steven Tyrel Wright, Wolfeboro; Keith J. McKinley, Shrewsbury; and James R. McKinley, Shrewsbury, and 9 grandchildren.
